TINBERGEN REBORN

ADAPTIVE INTEGRATION & SUSTAINABLE TRANSFERMATION

This project begins by challenging the decision to demolish the existing Tinbergen Building, proposing instead a full retrofit strategy that explores adaptive reuse as a sustainable alternative to replacement. By retaining over 90% of the original Brutalist structure, the proposal significantly reduces embodied carbon while preserving the building’s architectural identity and cultural value. Through sustainable systems, flexible learning spaces, and material regeneration, the project reimagines the existing building as a resilient and future-oriented educational environment, demonstrating how architecture can evolve through adaptation, repair, and continuity rather than demolition.
